Planning for the NCAs in 2020

2020 NCA/Law Graduate Calendar: Everything You Need to Know for the Year Ahead!

Calling all recent NCA and LL.B graduates (or soon-to-be-graduates)! First-off, congratulations on being done (or nearly done) your legal studies! You've worked hard to get here and should pat yourself on the back, maybe even take a short vacation!

Unfortunately, I have some good news and some bad news for you…

While you’ve worked hard over the last few months and years, the hard work isn't quite over yet. But, you knew that already though, didn't you?

If you are studying law abroad, chances are you may be slightly disconnected from the recruitment flurry happening here in Canada. Unlike Canadian law students, who have the help of their school's careers centre to navigate articling deadlines and other qualification requirements, International Law Students and NCA Candidates often have to figure things out for themselves. And there's quite a bit to figure out!

Now for the good news! To make sure you don’t miss a thing, I've put together a very comprehensive calendar of deadlines and activities you should be preparing for from February 2020 until January 2021! This calendar will walk you through everything from cleaning up your resume and preparing for Summer Associate/Articling Applications, to NCA registration, Clerkship applications, and Law Society Licencing deadlines.

While many of the dates enclosed are taken from the Ontario recruitment scene, most big firms across Canada follow these dates as well. In short, this calendar is a good place to start for everyone looking to enter the Canadian legal market -- but you should confirm dates with your local law society as well!

Best of luck!
